Professional translation of scientific papers

Papers or articles are works in which the author deals with a particular scientific issue. A newly completed thesis examines, with arguments for and against, its own conclusion. These arguments are based on already published publications and are embedded in the form of direct or indirect quotations. Matters are taken into consideration which have been little studied and whose question ideally no one previously has dealt with. Texts such as theses or studies are written in easy to understand language so that even a layman can understand what the author has addressed. Scientific papers deal with topics including legal, technical, linguistic or historical themes. It often happens that studies have only been made in one country, and results in other countries are also relevant. Therefore, these are often translated into other languages. Someone who is barely or not at all familiar with the original language of the subject article, therefore, can access articles in order to include the hypotheses in new scientific articles or theses. Would you like a research article translated? We work with over 4.200 native translators all over the world and find the appropriate translator for each individual project. Choose from over 150 languages for your required combination. Our project manager will be happy to create an individual offer. Send us an email or call us.

Keep the meaning of the text

So that the meaning of a text is still the same after the translation, a specialized article cannot be translated word for word into another language. The first challenge concerns different sentence structures, such as the position of the verb in a sentence. In addition, words that describe specific phenomena or objects may not cover the same meaning in other languages. What can be described in a language with one single word is divided into others in turn by several subcategories. Fixed phrases such as collocations can also represent a trouble area for understanding because they are used differently in all languages. Also, laws and standards that are different in different countries must also be taken into consideration into the translation.

Difficulty quotes

Also the question of how citations should be translated is highly relevant. Is the quote literally copied and translated only in the annotation or already in the flowing text? Quotations from third languages must also be properly included in the translation. Indirect quotes may not immediately visible or must be indicated in the language in order to be translated formally.

Skills of the translator

The translator should not only be familiar with the language of the article but also with the specific vocabulary of the theme in both languages. In order to commit no plagiarism, the translator must know how comments which were taken over by other authors are properly identified. The translator must make sure at the end of the comparison of both works that the translation has no gaps in understanding.
